The Korean greeting of “Have you eaten yet?” might well be replaced with “Are you sleeping well?” since what they are lacking is no longer food but good sleep. There is a growing discussion about how much money people are spending to improve their sleep quality. In the US, a report found that about one third of the population suffer from insomnia, creating a fast-growing demand for sleep products. The market is expected to reach 3 trillion KRW. Good sleep can make you feel better and even earn you money. Here is HMG’s response to the issue.
Technology for good sleep incorporated into apartment units
H Sleeponomics is a sleep technology product developed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction to help customers sleep sound.
When good sleep first emerged as an important theme of “H series,” related products were limited to bedding, drinks and incense. Recently, advanced technologies have found their way onto the sleep market creating what is referred to as "sleep tech". As the name suggests, sleep tech utilizes sensors and IoTs to collect user data and analyze them to help create the ideal condition for good sleep. Since 2017, the CES has operated the dedicated sleep tech exhibition hall allowing companies to show off their TVs, lighting, speakers, apps and even LED masks designed to help people sleep better.
Last July, Hyundai E&C launched “H Sleeponomics,” an art wall, which was the first sleep tech product released by a construction company. Although it is unusual for a constructor to develop a sleep tech product, Hyundai E&C decided to do so in response to growing consumer demand for better sleep. The H Sleeponomics automatically adjusts the lighting, temperature and sound according to the sleep stage of its user. The adjustments are made to guide the user’s brain waves into a sleep-friendly state.
For example, the color of the lighting in the bedroom is red for improved sleep efficiency and the temperature is adjusted to between 18 and 23℃, which is ideal for sleeping. In addition, natural sound created using brainwave technology is played relaxing the mind and body to induce sleep. The sound system can also help the user to wake up feeling refreshed. The sound of waves, rain, and streams is played during the night and the sound of birds in the morning.
Hyundai E&C collaborated with a healthcare specialist company which has over 30 years of data and experience of developing EEG-guided sound sources with brain science and technology, for the development of H Sleeponomics. Currently, H Sleeponomics is at the final stage for adjustment of shape, position, and height to be used as a built-in unit. In the 1st half of 2021, one unit will be introduced to the customers at a gallery. Hyundai E&C strives to realize a healthy lifestyle in residential spaces with plans to actively communicate with customers and apply various technologies to its apartment units through its H series products.
Hyundai E&C has been introducing H Series products every year, responding to the latest trends in social, environmental, and technological fields and to consumer needs. The H Sleeponomics was created to help improve sleep quality, a major factor that influences health, immunity and quality of life.
