Hyundai Motor Group's navigation wireless update feature is available anytime, anywhere, providing the best service at all times
Today, regular updates are required to keep software great. Newer versions can fix bugs, errors and often include improved features addressing feedback from users in order to provide the best experience possible. This is especially true for navigation software since the latest road information needs to be provided to help drivers reach their destination with the least possible hassle. Ideally, it would be best if the latest map data and latest version of the navigation software is updated to the car as soon as it becomes available. HMG has now begun over-theair navigation data update to make this a reality. HMG’s new connected cars now download the latest data and software and install it on their own, making it no longer necessary to manually download the data onto a PC and then transfer it to the car. Over-the-air updates will be made available for models including Hyundai PALISADE, NEXO and Kia SOUL BOOSTER, keeping their navigation up to date at all times.
- *Over-the-air (OTA) update is available for Hyundai SONATA/IONIQ, Kia K9 and GENESIS G90.
- *Must subscribe to BlueLink, UVO or GCS to activate
- *OTA update will be made available in more models in the future

Interactive Voice Recognition Service
When you are at the wheel, you must focus on driving with your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road. Yet, you often end up doing other things such as checking messages on your phone, entering a new destination on your navigation or drinking coffee. It only takes a few seconds but the car is still moving forward. If you are cruising on the highway at 100km/h, the car travels 28m even if you only take your eyes off the road for a split second. A voice command system can help reduce driver distraction and promote safe driving.
To date, voice command systems have had somewhat limited features such as making telephone calls, navigation assistance and recognizing set commands. In reality, drivers have often ended up doing things manually after the voice command failed to have the desired outcome. HMG has developed a next-generation voice command system with natural language processing so that drivers can easily get things done while driving safely.
- *Voice recognition support varies by model
- *Connected car service necessary to enable natural language processing
- *Natural language processing support for vehicles equipped with infotainment system built after August 2016 will be made available via a system update in autumn 2019.
The 8th generation Sonata is equipped with an artificial intelligence platform called Kakao i.
Information search
The voice assistant will be supported starting with the 8th generation SONATA. It will allow the driver to search for information speaking naturally. For example, the system will turn on the navigation with direction when it hears the phrase “Where is the art center?” Kakao i, an AI platform on the latest HMG cars responds to a wide variety of requests such as “Give me today’s news headlines”, “what will the weather be like tomorrow?”, “How much is one hundred US dollars in Korean Won?”, “What was the winning Lotto number last week?”
*Supported features: Navigation / News / Sports / Date / Time / Weather / Entertainment / Horoscope / Stocks / Lotto / Exchange rate / Information search / Foreign language
Vehicle control functions
Starting with the 8th generation SONATA, many of the vehicle functions can be controlled with natural language phrases such as “Cool down the cabin”, “Clear the fog on the windshield”, “Direct the airflow towards me”. Since climate control is the most accessed function, enabling voice command for climate control will make driving safer.
