- Kia e-Niro named ‘Green Car of the Year’ in new awards - ‘Audience Award’ for Kia XCeed, voted for by the Hungarian public
(FRANKFURT) 26 March 2020 - Kia has won two prizes in the inaugural Hungarian Car of the Year awards, with accolades for the Kia e-Niro and Kia XCeed.
Established for the first time in 2020, the Hungarian Car of the Year contest introduced seven categories. The Kia e-Niro electric crossover has been named ‘Green Car of the Year’ in the new awards, ahead of other all-electric models from a wide range of premium and volume brands. Meanwhile, the Kia XCeed urban crossover won the ‘Audience Award’.
The Hungarian Car of the Year awards were judged by an independent panel of experienced print and online automotive journalists, while the Audience Award was voted for by the Hungarian public, who chose their favourite car from all 39 entrants to the 2020 awards.
Norbert Nagy, Managing Director for Kia Motors Hungary, comments: “The Kia brand has grown in popularity in Hungary for many years, and we are proud to have won two awards in the inaugural Hungarian Car of the Year contest as a result. Both the e-Niro and XCeed demonstrate Kia’s brand appeal and future direction, with zero-emissions, electrified power just as important as high desirability and quality.”
The Kia XCeed The Kia XCeed is a new urban crossover utility vehicle (CUV) which combines compact SUV practicality with the sporty packaging and engaging handling of a hatchback. It addresses the growing desire among European drivers for cars which offer more emotion and dynamism than an SUV, both in terms of the way they look and drive. A sporty alternative to a traditional SUV, it nevertheless offers comparable levels of space for occupants and luggage. The car engages drivers with sporty handling and a comfortable, assured ride, while providing a more commanding view of the road ahead than a conventional hatchback.
More than 20,000 examples of the XCeed have been sold across Europe since sales began in the second half of 2019. A new electrified Plug-in Hybrid variant was launched at the start of 2020.
Kia e-Niro - zero-emissions electric crossover with 455 km driving range Kia’s first fully-electric crossover, the e-Niro offers a driving range of up to 455 kilometres (282 miles)* on a single charge - and up to 615 kilometres (382 miles) in the city**. The e-Niro offers greater driving range than many gasoline cars and most mainstream electric vehicles - and even a number of significantly more expensive electric cars. Its unique combination of style and practicality is matched by Kia’s unrivalled 7-Year, 150,000-kilometre warranty, which also covers the battery pack and electric motor.
Depending on market, the e-Niro is available with a long-range, high-capacity 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, as well as a 39.2 kWh power pack, which offers drivers up to 289 km (179 miles)* of zero-emissions motoring on a full charge. Plugged into a 100 kW fast charger, it takes only 42 minutes to recharge the e-Niro’s 64 kWh battery from 20% to 80%.
