Joseon White Porcelain embracing the Nam Mountain "Amore Pacific Gardens"
The three Gardens are a great example of Hyundai E&C's creative landscaping
In Yongsan, downtown Seoul, there is a building that draws your attention with its overwhelming volume. Designed by world-renowned architect David Chipperfield and constructed by Hyundai E&C, this is the Amore Pacific's new HQ. It has been praised by many for its unique white finish, reminiscent of a traditional white porcelain jar, and famous for its restrained beauty. The highlight of the building is undoubtedly the three internal gardens, on the 5th, 11th and 17th floors. Unlike the exterior which employs a straight-line element, following a rather strict design code, the landscape of the Gardens is characterized by smooth curved lines for a natural feel.
Each garden has a distinctive focal design point. The ground floor focuses on communication with surrounding buildings and pedestrians, with public walking paths and art pieces. The garden on the 5th floor has water features with a tempered glass-finish, which allows natural light into the lobby underneath. Blue maple trees and stylishly designed benches are on the 11th floor garden that looks out over the city view, while the 17th floor garden was created to resemble the delicate natural beauty of ground cover and mountings that resembled the skyline of Nam Mountain. The three gardens each have a unique open space, with a hollow center, allowing everyone in the building to appreciate them all year around.
"While the design of the building is rather rigid, the landscape was designed to convey the feeling of soft natural elements in it. The gardens open to different directions on each floor. We undertook a number of pioneering goals such as sacrificing a whole floor so that we could have 4m-deep soil for landscaping and sculpting to reproduce the skyline of Nam Mountain." - Hyundai E&C Yun-gil Choi, Deputy Manager of the Architectural Housing Exterior Team
Mysterious Forest in the Apartment Complex "Heritage Garden Yeonhawon of THE H Honor Hills"
The Heritage Garden Yeonhawon received the Good Design Award from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy and the prestigious Asia Design Prize
Located in the courtyard of THE H Honor Hills Community Center, the Heritage Garden Yeonhawon was designed by Professor Wook-joo Jung of Seoul National University, who also participated in the construction. In order to recreate nature within a confined space, large hornbeam trees, natural stones, and plant materials were used to create a forest-like landscape. Decks that appear to float in the air along three sides of the building were also constructed. When the sprinklers, hidden in various spots of the garden, start to operate, the garden is shrouded in fog creating a mysterious and dreamy atmosphere just like a natural forest.

"The community center of THE H Honor Hills is located on the first basement floor, but it looks as if it is on the ground floor thanks to the mysterious garden in the courtyard. We worked hard on the landscaping in order to satisfy all of the residents who are connoisseurs of art and always ahead of the trend. We sourced the most beautiful trees and collaborated with master designers such as Professor Wook-joo Jung of Seoul National University to bring landscaping to the next level. We are pleased that residents are very happy with the results." - Hyundai E&C Hyon-woog Cho, Head of the Brand Marketing Team
Charms of the "HILLSTATE's Landscape Project"
Especially designed for children to play by the water. A streamlined mooring area showing the flow of water, floor fountains, jumping fountains, and other water features which will stimulate children's curiosity
A great landscape is a common feature of all luxury apartment complexes because it is the best way to bring nature closer to us. Understanding this, Hyundai E&C has newly established a Housing Exterior team to expand its scope from the exterior design of the buildings to the landscape to create a truly special landscape for residents. New landscape elements such as water-themed playgrounds to cope with heat waves and facilities that reduce air pollution in addition to creating green space, will make the landscapes more useful to residents. Hyundai E&C was awarded six prizes at the Good Design Awards hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy for landscape works including Heritage Garden Yeonhawon of THE H Honor Hills and the Central Square of HILLSTATE Homaesil.
