This is the Hyundai Motor Group’s Children’s traffic safety campaign
It’s easier for children to get into blind spots, places unnoticed by the drivers, as they are smaller than adults. They also have a higher probability of suddenly running onto the road or crossing the road on red lights, hence the need to carry out traffic safety education to convey proper traffic safety information. Hyundai Motor Group carries out various campaigns for children’s traffic safety. Let’s find out what they are, shall we?

In 2011 Hyundai Motor Company has produced educational animation for children’s traffic safety and has screened it in 82 countries including Korea, China, Russia, etc., for free. From 2013, the group has been carrying out Hyundai Motor Company traffic safety class with Robocar Poli. It’s an experience type traffic safety education program that not only deals with preventing children’s traffic accidents but also how to handle safety related accidents that can take place in everyday lives.

Since 2016, Hyundai Motor Company has been carrying out the ‘Zero School Zone Accident Campaign’ which supports school automobiles and safety device installation. New cars with safety technology are donated or safety devices are installed on automobiles. Hyundai Motor Company supports various safety technologies for school automobiles: the door jam prevention system which detects a child who gets caught between the doors; the seating and belt check system which checks whether a child has sat down and put on a safety belt; the rear alarm system that notifies driving in reverse; and the forward alarm system which gives out alarms when there’s a child ahead.
Children’s traffic accidents are prevented through technologies such as the Around View system and the Sleeping Child Check (Photography by Hyundai Motor Company)
School automobiles have the Around View system which allows one to see the blind spots around the car with cameras installed on the front, back, left and right of the car. This prevents accidents that may take place in the drivers’ blind spots. There’s also the Sleeping Child Check function, which checks internal and external blind spots when a child gets off the car with smartphone NFC tags. When unchecked, the alarm goes off on the principal’s and the parents’ smartphones. With this, the parents are notified when their children arrive at the school and whether the children have gotten on and/or off the car, preventing accidents that may take place when children are neglected in the automobile.

Hyundai MOBIS has been giving out transparent umbrellas to elementary school children around Korea for 10 years now. Road Traffic Authority instructors hand out transparent umbrellas to 150 schools selected by Hyundai MOBIS and carry out traffic safety education. The transparent umbrellas are made by Hyundai MOBIS; they are light and sturdy as they are made with lightweight aluminum and glass fiber fortified plastic material. All sides are transparent as to not block the children’s sight, and there is a light at the end of the umbrella for the drivers to quickly identify children. There’s also an emergency whistle on the handle.

Hyundai WIA, Children’s Backpack Safety Cover
Hyundai WIA produced safety backpack covers for children’s safe walking (Photography by Hyundai WIA)
Hyundai WIA gave out safety backpack covers for children this year as they have done the previous year. They carry out this giving out event for local children’s centers located around the headquarters, research centers, and business sites. The cover is produced in neon green color to assist children’s safe walking at night and in the rain, which helps the drivers to locate children easily. There’s also meaning in the number 30; it’s the speed limit in children protection zone. The number is to alert the drivers about the speed limit and remind themselves of the traffic safety awareness.
Hyundai WIA distributes the backpack covers and also carries out traffic safety education. The main cause of children’s traffic accidents is crossing the road on a red light; professional traffic safety instructors teach children how to cross the road safely. Children also experience and learn about moving safely on inside roads, crossroads and through parked cars.
Children’s traffic accidents take place every year. It is important to alert children of the danger of traffic accidents through regular traffic safety education to prevent them. Hyundai Motor Group’s traffic safety campaigns will continue to keep our children safe.
